Just who are we? We are your neighbors, of course …

We are business and professional women and men who come together from all sorts of endeavors to serve the community where we live. Chartered May 18, 1937, we’ve been championing a variety of projects for community betterment for 74 years, now.

And, we are your neighbors on an international level, as well.

Our club is a part of the much larger Pilot International organization founded in 1921 in Macon, GA. Through Pilot International, our community focus has become one of working with brain-related disorders:

Prevention of brain injury
– Our “BrainMindersTM” training program was originally developed for children preschool through primary grades. It’s been presented to thousands of children, including at least a few hundred here in the Triad.

Assistance for victims of brain disorders – We actively support a variety of local projects ranging from serving meals to exceptional needs residents of a sheltered home environment, to placing life skills training equipment into a special education classroom.

Education, Research & Development
– Locally, we fund annual scholarships to those who aspire to work in brain-related fields. Our scholarships have helped to place trained professionals in areas such as special education, as physical, occupational and music therapy, and health services.

We hope you’ll visit us often. We gladly welcome new members with a heart to serve others. Please check out our site to learn more.

Project Lifesaver is a locating system for individuals who have Alzheimer’s, dementia, Down’s Syndrome, Autism or other brain related disorders which cause the person to wander. Persons who are enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program wear a personalized bracelet that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the Sheriff’s Office that the person is missing, a search and rescue team responds to the wanderer’s area and starts searching with the mobile locator tracking system. Search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes.

How Does Project Lifesaver Work?

The Project Lifesaver bracelet contains a one ounce battery operated radio wrist transmitter emitting an automatic tracking signal every second, 24 hours a day. The signal can be tracked on the ground or in the air over several miles. As each bracelet has a unique radio frequency, the Project Lifesaver search team positively locates and identifies the person who has wandered or run.

How the Program Works

Members of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office and the Pilot Club of Greensboro have undergone training conducted by Project Lifesaver International in the application and maintenance of the equipment. Participants are fitted with a special radio transmitter bracelet that is tuned to a unique frequency assigned to the bracelet. The water and shock-resistant bracelets are about the size of an average wristwatch and are secured to the wearer by use of tamper resistant clamps. Caregivers are trained in a daily regimen that documents and verifies proper operation of the devise, and are provided with a diagnostic tool that verifies the bracelet is constantly transmitting the homing signal. Once a month, a volunteer visits the client to replace the battery that powers the device. Anyone interested in applying for participation in this program should request an application by calling (336) 681-0526. There is a fee of $20 per month; however;
those unable to pay the monthly fee will be considered for funding through community partner contributions on a first-come, first-serve basis.
